MERLE PERKINS (God) is an acclaimed actress and singer who this month stars in Derek Walcott and Galt MacDermott's "Walker" at the Boston Playwrites Theater. Perkins was most recently seen on stage as Julia in "Avenue X" at Merrimack Repertory Theatre, and in "And the World Goes Round" at the Lyric Stage Company of Boston. Last season, Perkins also directed the music for MRT’s production of "From the Mississippi Delta" She has played a variety of roles in other regional theatre companies in New England such as the Publick Theatre, Jewish Theatre of New England, North Shore Music Theatre, Vineyard Playhouse, American Stage Festival, Brown Bag Opera, Wheelock Family Theatre, and Anna Deveare Smith’s Institute for the Arts and Civic Dialogue housed at American Repertory Theatre. Perkins is a vocalist on Boston area stages and nightclubs, having performed with the Medicine Band and appearing regularly in Faith Soloway’s schlock operas at Club Passim and the Somerville Theatre. Perkins returns to the world of the Schlock Opera in the role she was born to play - GOD.
